Activation
     Established as the 90th Bombardment Wing, Medium, on December 20, 1950.  Activated January 2, 1951 at Fairchild AFB, Washington, six months after the start of the Korean War.. Moved to Forbes AFB on March 14, 1951
Korean War Superfortress Headquarters
     The 90th served as the operational training unit for B-29 aircrews and mechanics of the 376th, 308 and 310 Bombardment Wings from May 1951 to September 1952; as replacement training units for B-29 aircrews June 1951 - August 1953  It flew B-29s, TB-29 trainer versions, and KB-29 tankers.  It also provided RB-29 reconnaissance training to Far East Air Forces from November 1952 to August 1953 using the RB-29.  It trained Shoran personnel SAC wide from November 1952 to November 1953.  
     It flew it's own reconnaissance missions from September 1953.
RB-47s and KB-97s
     In 1954, it received RB-47s and continued it's reconnaissance missions until May 1958.  It served as the Rb-47 combat crew training wing from then until June 1960.  In 1955, it received KC-97 tankers and conducted aerial refueling missions until June 1950.   Deployed at Eielson AFB, Alaska from May 5, to Aug 31 1955.  Not operational from June 1960 to June 1963.
Minuteman Missiles
   On July 1, 1963, it was assigned to Francis E. Warren AFB, Wyoming where it supervised missile facility construction until the following July.  It served as a strategic missile wing using Minuteman I missiles from July 1964 to October 1974 and Minuteman III missiles from June, 1973.

Comments from Visitors:
While surffin through it I noticed you do not have a copy of the patch from the 90th Strat Recon Wing. The 90th was at Forbes AFB Kansas after leaving Fairchild in around 1951/52 with B-29's and later then got the RB-47's, in 1954. They were de-activated in May 1960 and some of the personnel were absorbed into the 40th BW when the 40th left Schilling in June 1960 and re-located at Forbes. It later - as you show - became a missile wing and had the patch that you have in your collection. Prior to that patch the 90th SRW had another patch that only shows the flying reptile. Jim Diamond
