Activation
     Established as the 320 Bombardment Wing, Medium and activated On December 1, 1952 at March AFB, California.  
B-29 Superfortress and B-47 Stratojet
     The 320th replaced the 106th Bombardment Wing, Medium in Dec. 1952. and took over it's B-29s and KC-97s.  Received B-47s in 1953, which it flew until 1960.  Conducted global bombardment training and air refueling operations to meet SAC commitments, 1952-1960.  Trained B-47 cadre for 96th Bombardment Wing, Medium December 1953 to January 1955.  Deployed as a wing to Brize Norton RAF Station,  England June 5 - September 4, 1954 and Anderson AFB, Guam, October 5, 1956 - January 11, 1957.  Discontinued operations on Sept. 15, 1960, but not inactivated .
B-52 Stratofortress & KC-135 Stratotankers   
     The 320th was soon back in action.  It was redesignated the 320th Bombardment Wing, Heavy on November 15, 1962.  On February 1, 1963, it took over the B-52s and KC-135 formerly operated by the  4134th Strategic Wing at Mather AFB.  The 320th was once again performing global bombardment training and air refueling operations to meet SAC commitments.
Vietnam
       The entire 320th Bomb Wing was drastically reduced February -  July 1965, December 1965, 
March  1966 and January 1972 to October 1973 when all aircraft crews and most support personnel were loaned to other SAC units for operations in Southeast Asia. 
Later Missions
       Continued to fly B-52s out of Mather until September, 1989.  During the later period, it trained T-29 pilots for Fifteen Air Force.

        Assigned Feb 1, 1963 - Sept 30, 1989.  (Not operational Feb 11 - July 1, 1965; Dec 1, 1965 - 
        March 21, 1966 and June 3, 1972 - Oct 25, 1973).  Flew the B-52Fs acquired from the
        4134th Strategic Wing and flew until 1968, when it converted to the B-52G.  
        Flew the B-52G until inactivated on Sept. 30, 1989.
