Activation
     Established as the 705th Strategic Missile Wing on February 6, 1958.  Activated on Feb. 20, 1958.  Redesignated 705th Strategic Missile Wing (IRBM-Thor) on April 1, 1958. 
Operations 
     The 705th was essentially a "paper organization."  It had no missiles and was manned by 7th Air Division additional personnel.  It was "stationed" at RAF Lakenheath, England on Feb. 20, 1958; USAB South Ruislip (later, South Ruislip Air Station), England from March 15, 1958 - April 1, 1960.  It's purpose was to aid the United Kingdom in it's installation of American-made Thor missiles.
Status
     Discontinued and inactivated April 1, 1960.
