USAF Attack Aircraft 1946-1970

Attack Aircraft of the USAF

The war in Vietnam saw the development of gunships.  The Douglas A-1H Skyraider was used to support ground troops.  Cargo planes were converted to attack aircraft by the addition of guns. The Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar became the AC-119 Shadow and the Lockheed C-130 Hercules became the AC-130 Spectre.  They were formidable fighting machines.
