Activation
    The 706th Strategic Missile Wing was established on February, 13, 1958 and activated on Feb. 23, 1958.  It was redesignated the 706th Strategic Missile wing (ICBM-Atlas) on April 1, 1958. 
Operations
     It replaced the 4230th Strategic Wing (Missile) in February 1958, accepting the first two missile complexes in August 1960 from the 564th and 565th Strategic Missile Squadrons. thus gaining it's operational capability.  On October 1, 1960, the 549th Strategic Missile Squadron became operational.  
Status
     Inactivated July 1, 1961, and replaced by the 389th Strategic Missile Wing.
