4-Digit Air Refueling Wings

     Please note that there were many 1, 2, and 3 digit Air Refueling Wings.  They are listed under Primary Combat Wings.  These 4-digit Air Refueling wings were short lived.

4045th Air Refueling Wing
Activated 1 Jul 1959, at Selfridge AFB, MI.  Assigned to Second Air Force.  Assigned to 22nd Air Division 15 July 1959. Reassigned to 17th Air Division on 9 Sep 1960.  Reassigned to 17th Strategic Aerospace Division on 15 Feb 1962   Inactivated. 1 Jan 1963.  Replaced by 500th Air Refueling Wing.

  4050th Air Refueling Wing
     Activated at Westover AFB, MA, on 1 Apr 1955.  Assigned to Eighth Air Force.  Assigned to
the 57th Air Division on 4 Sep 1956.  Flew KC-97s.   Inactivated 1 Jan 1963, and replaced by
the 499th Air Refueling Wing.
  4060th Air Refueling Wing
     Activated at on 8 Mar 1955, at Dow AFB, ME.  Assigned to the Eighth Air Force.  Flew KC-97s.  Assigned to the 820th Air Division on 1 Jan 1959.  Inactivated 1 Jan 1963. 
  4061st Air Refueling Wing
    Activated in 1957 at Malmstrom AFB, MT.  Assigned to Fifteenth Air Force.   Assigned to 813th Air Division on 15 Jul 1959.  Inactivated 15 Jul 1961.  Replaced by 341st Strategic Missile Wing in 1961.
  4090th Air Refueling Wing
     Activated 1 Aug 1958, at Clinton-County AFB, OH.  Assigned to Eight Air Force.   Reassigned to the Second Air Force in 1959, to the 22nd Air Division on 15 Jul 1959.  Inactivated 1 Jul 1960.
  4108th Air Refueling Wing
     Activated in 1960 at Plattsburgh AFB, NY.  Assigned to the Eighth Air Force.  Flew KC-97s.  Assigned to the 820th Air Division in 1961, which was redesignated the 820th Strategic Aerospace Division the following year.  Inactivated in 1963, but replaced by the 497th Air Refueling Wing.
